About ICT Services and Systems in Korea against Covid-19, a report published

In 2020, COVID-19 is spreading around the world as the worst pandemic of the 21st century, with approximately 5 million infected and more than 300,000 deaths. 

 

While vaccines against this have not yet been invented, each country has come up with comprehensive measures in various ways, including industrial, technical, and policy, to minimize damane from COVID-19. In particular, it has been reported that damanges can be alleviated in countries where precautionary measures have been prepared in advance or have a culture where propagation can be slow.

 

Since the Republic of Korea is a country adjacent to China, the origin of COVID-19, a significant number of people were infected in the early days of the occurrence of the epidemic. Nevertheless, due to agile actions of government and people's cooperation, Korea is considered to have minimized damages about both human and economy compared to other countries.

In addition, Korea has a feature of making successful preventing the spread of viruses while keeping the level of infringement of the people's freedom low through the guideline for the action, called '사회적 거리두기'(social distancing). Therefore, the prevention system of Korea is regared as a benchmarking model for other countries.

 

 

 

 

NIA(National Information Society Agency), public institution of Korea that promote the spread and application of ICT technology both domestically and abroad, published a report,

'Korean ICT services against Covid-19 pandemic' on 15 May, 2020.

 

This report introduces not only ICT systems of government for monitering and controlling epidemics but roles of each government, companies or individuals and relationship between them in these systems.

 

There are many epidemics for livestocks as well as human in Korea and it causes damages to there. In particular, MERS, another epidemic which occured in 2015, caused Korean casualties, therefore it makes Korean government develop some prevention system for infectious diseases. So there are useful system for those purpose in Korea and this report will help you to comprehend them.

This report describes 27 systems on public sector and PPP(Public-Private Partnership) at each steps, such as 'Screening and Diagnosis Stage', 'Epidemiological Investigation Stage', 'Patient and Contact Management Stage' and 'Prevention Stage'. These systems contain not only computer system but mobile apps, physical facilities or experimental equipments etc.

 

 

 

 

For example above, the section describing 'Smart Quarantine System', introduces what the purpose and main concept of system is, how by which institution and when it is developped. 

 

 

 

 

It shows detailed information with well-formed illustrations which other system is connected, which tasks can be applied, how it works for people, institutions and companies and so on.

 

 

 

 

Not only an example I introduce above, this paper has some helpful infographics, therefore it will help you comprehend these systems and can give inspirations when you are planning or develppping programs(whether political or computer) related on this topic.

 

 

 

Last part of this report is introducing web services or mobile apps developed by companies or individual. Such services give knowledge and statistics about COVID-19 and these developers contribute to share informations and overcome this epidemic.
